The battle for king of the Mamodo world happens once every 1000 years in the human world, with mamodo's teaming up with humans to enable them to cast power spells in their bid to be the last one standing. Zatch bell was a card game released in the US while the anime was airing on TV but since it was ported over from Japan the game relies on the manga's art. Using a unique spellbook deck building and play system, players were given some control when cards became available to them. The spellbook is also the player's life points but turning pages provides resources to cast spells, so this creates a balance between getting access to those spells and burning through them too quickly. The game had a healthy run of 4 expansions in America, but ran longer in Japan. There is a dedicated fan base that continued the game changing errata card text and releasing some newer cards online.
